Here are the most commonly asked questions about remapping, TDi tuning and performance chips, and their corresponding answers.
Q. Why does a turbo car gain so much more power than a normally aspirated car?
A. The turbocharger is a device for compressing air into the Engine Cylinder above atmospheric pressure, the level to which it is pumped is determined by the turbocharger size and the waste gate actuator. This conditioned air allows much more fuel to be burnt within a given cubic capacity cylinder size than can be achieved under normal atmospheric pressure. The engine management system is modified in timing and fuelling so that the engine effectively responds as if it has larger CC. This extra air/fuel can achieve in some instances 100% more power and torque.
The normally aspirated engine can achieve 10% more power and torque by careful TDi tuning and programming of fuel pulse and ignition maps and further power is available if camshafts, exhaust pipes, air filters and high octane fuel are deployed.
Q. Why haven't the O/E given this extra power as standard?
A. The engineers who developed the engines know this extra power and torque is available, however, due to some engines enormous operational range encountered around the world such as varying fuel octane, air temperatures and altitudes. A safe all round compromise is adopted by the manufacturers to suit all these conditions and also both fuel economy and exhaust emissions regulations.
Compromises are also left in the programs to cater for the owners who refuse to follow service schedules and insist on using the worst fuel possible. Our task as a Performance Chips, Remapping and TDi tuning company is to clear these compromises and produce a program more suited to the enthusiastic driver who looks after his vehicle and knows what he wants from an engine. We optimise the software that runs your engine in many different ways, yet we still leave the reserves necessary to assure absolute reliability.
Q. In what rpm range is the extra power released?
A. On most cars equipped with an Evolution chip you will feel the power over the entire power band of the engine, but especially in the lower and middle rev range.
Q. Will my engines life expectancy be shortened?
A. No, The power reserves of the engine are so large, that you don't have to expect more engine wear. We optimise the fuel and ignition curves, without exceeding the limits of your car's engine.
Q. What about my fuel consumption?
A. With same driving style, improvements in fuel consumption of up to 20% are possible, especially in turbo diesel powered engines. Take a look at our fuel savings calculator to see how fast a remap could pay for itself.
Q. How is extra fuel economy achieved on Turbo Diesels?
A. Normally, when the same driving style is adopted after remapping, the mere fact that you now have more torque output at the flywheel for any given throttle angle will mean that you can make the same physical progress as before whilst using less throttle to do so. You will normally find you can also shift up a gear that little bit earlier, again due to the extra torque, so you are also limiting the overall engine speed that is being used on every journey. For those overtaking manouvers we all occasionally have to make, you will now be more relaxed and confident so again will tend not to be flat to the floor and panicking during such manouvers, thus, using less fuel due to more available power.
When these factors are then allied to the various tweaks we make to pump timing, boost pressure and injection calibration fuel tables you end up with an overall improvement in fuel consumption of up to 20%.

Dont forget, we guarantee you will make savings... or your money back.
Q. Can I use my original performance chips again?
A. If your car is an older type where we remove the performance chip itself, then yes, but on modern cars there is no physical chip and we just change the data within it. In these cases we keep your program on file so we can simply program it back should you require us to do so.
Q. Do I need to up rate the chassis or brakes?
A. No, on 90% of vehicles, you don't need to upgrade the chassis or brakes after the re-mapping.
Q. Can your Evolution chip be detected by dealer servicing?
A. No. Your car dealer cannot determine a software modification with his equipment, since our Evolution chips are designed to be transparent to all engine diagnostic equipment.
Q. Will my engine run hotter after remapping and TDi tuning?
A. The temperature, at worst, will rise by a very small amount (only on full power). On average, this is between 5 - 8 degrees. Most modern cars however have no problem at all dissipating the heat from a mild power upgrade and will not see any temperature change whatsoever.
Q. How do I know if my engine can be remapped?
A. Take a look through our database and see if your car is listed. If it’s not, please call us direct upon which we can give remapping advice, remember there is always a good chance something can be done to improve any engines performance… Just because it isn’t yet listed, doesn't mean we cannot improve it for you.
Q. Is the programming and remapping work done by your company?
A. Yes, We have the technicians and the facilities in house to read modern performance chips and ecu files via the serial port and can then recalibrate and re-flash your complex run maps back into the ecu. We can of course remove, read and re-program EPROMS as required on older vehicles.
Q. I have been offered a similar sounding product elsewhere for a suspiciously low price.
Should i be worried?
A. Yes, And we explain why that is on this page... "Don't buy a Remap before you read this!"
